As per the official sources, the Capital Development Authority has partnered with WAPDA for the construction of the exclusive project Khanpur Dam — Dotara Dam. The upcoming project boasts substantial dimensions that feature a towering height of 122 meters and a length spanning 350 meters. The Dotara Dam’s construction will be initiated after the successful completion of a pre-feasibility study conducted by the CDA that will cost an estimated PKR 20 million.

As per the sources, the WAPDA and CDA representatives observed the comprehensive presentation of the proposed Dotara Dam project in a meeting. This project holds great importance as it will be able to hold a considerable storage capacity of 0.1 million acre-feet (MAF) of water after completion. Also, it will provide a daily supply of 72 million gallons (MGD) of potable water to the capital city.

In addition, the dam project will also be able to generate 10 megawatts (MW) of hydropower. The landmark project has a substantial impression of addressing Islamabad’s long-standing water problems. The CDA has stated that using gravity for water supply would be a game changer in the city’s history.

In response to the CDA suggestion, the WAPDA has reacted that they are willing to proceed with the Dotara Dam project and commit to financing the necessary project studies. This commitment is important to the preparation of a revised PC-II pro forma, which will then be given to the Ministry of Water Resources for further evaluation.
