Islamabad: According to a news report published on September 8, 2023, the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) has approved PKR 246 billion for development projects that will improve the national infrastructure.

The Deputy Chairman Planning Commission, Dr. Mohammad Jahanzeb Khan, chaired the CDWP meeting. During the meeting, He gave a nod to the construction of an 18-km long double line track featuring 4.2km long loop lines from Bin Qasim to Port Qasim. Furthermore, the meeting also approved a new 105-km long single-line railway track connecting Thar Coal Mines to New Chhor Station. The main aim of these projects is to provide transportation facilities that meet the demands of the growing economy.

In the session, they advised the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) to approve PKR 55.97 billion. The Ministry of Railway is the lead agency supervising the

Thar Coal Rail Connectivity project, which encompasses the integration of Thar Coal Mines with the existing railway network, including last-mile connectivity to Port Qasim.

Also, in the meeting, the CDWP referred to the revised plan for the construction of the New Gwadar International Airport (NGIA) with an estimated cost of PKR 60.208 billion to ECNEC for final approval.

In addition, the CDWP has approved a PKR 6.121 billion project mainly aimed at improving and expanding the Spera Ragha Road from Khanozai Cross to Loralai Killa Saifullah. Furthermore, in the meeting, another project of the Special Repair of 600 Passenger Coaches and 1,200 bogie wagons was also approved with an estimated cost of PKR 3.95 billion.
